Beaufort’s Sutton announces campaign for Mayor
Beaufort City Councilman Mike Sutton today declared his candidacy for Mayor in the general election to be held on November 4.
Calling for renewed focus on the needs of the city and a time-out from annexation of adjacent neighborhoods, Sutton said “It’s time to get our own house in order. For too long, City Hall has acted as if it was in the land business and ignored the municipal services our citizens expect. I’m running for Mayor to bring new energy, leadership experience, and a single-minded focus to the issues that effect our economy and quality of life. I will tackle potholes myself, if necessary.”
Sutton plans to name his campaign team in the coming weeks and says he looks forward to a vigorous discussion of the city’s priorities.
“This election year voters can chose the same folks who have served for so long, or we can put into office new leaders with energy, real-world experience, and the willingness to truly deal with the issues facing us and our city,” Sutton said.
“I continue to be disenchanted with the status quo and promise, as I have since you elected me to Council in 2006, to be an independent agent of change.”
